Cold-rolled steel is low-carbon hot-rolled steel that has been rolled at room temperature, below its recrystallization temperature. The steel is then cleaned of oxide scale and finished in a specific series of rolling to just over the desired thickness, heating to controlled temperatures, and final rolling to the desired thickness. This produces steel with a close thickness tolerance (+/-.0015” or better) and a wide range of controlled surface finishes. The process of cold rolling increasing the steel’s strength and hardness, while decreasing its ductility. Not only can you achieve improved mechanical properties, cold rolling provides more control over the shape and final dimensions of the product.
